Material Girl

Who doesn't remember the outfit Madonna wore in the material girl video when she acted like Marilyn Monroe in "Diamond's are a Girl's Best Friend". Who else could actually pull off acting like Monroe? And that Gaultier black satin conical bra she wore on the blonde ambition tour. Madonna has had some crazy outfits and now they are to be on display in February at the Old Truman Brewery in East London. The exhibition will be entitled "Simply Madonna, Materials of the Girl" and the pieces are assumed to be auctioned afterwards.

Tautou for Chanel

While Shirley McClaine may be acting as the fashion guru in a lifetime movie, it is Audrey Tautou, the current face of chanel no. 5, that I am looking forward to seeing playing Coco Chanel. Karl Lagerfeld will be involved in re-creating the costumes of the time, which obviously makes the film a must see. Filming starts September 15 in where else?, Paris.

The Line-Up

Target Go-International line-up for the next few months
Richard Chai
Jonathan Saunders
Thakoon

Rumor has it that Alexander McQueen may follow suit. If Only!

Coming to America

So for the second year in a row a Brit takes the cover of September Vogue. Keira Knightley steals the cover. The magazine votes 798 pages of fashion, but less ads were taken out than last year - another sign that the magazine is struggling along with other conde nast publications.

Vogue's Mossy Cover

Kate Moss graces the cover of Vogue and apparently she wants to prove that a mother can still have fun.

"I am still acting like a seventeen-year-old. I definitely haven't become middle-aged. I've got a house and a daughter and all that, but I still like to have fun. Even in my business we still have fun."

Hot for Haute Couture

Christian Lacroix has got to be one of my all time favorite designers. I guess it's because his haute couture designs are always reminiscent of one of my all time favorite eras, the Victorian Age. With all the lace and close attention to details, I find myself in awe.

Two pieces really caught my eye. The pink dress I think because the vast majority of the line was black and thus the color itself stood out and this black number.

Ravashing in Red

The Valentine couture show was held in the Place Vendôme showroom of the house, but what most people were concerned about was how Alessandra Facchinetti would do. This is her first show since Valentino retired leaving her in charge of the collection.

Valentino sat in the front row of the show and I've got to say while it defintily proves to be headed by a different designer, I liked it. And she made sure to end the show with Valentino's signature, a red dress.

Ei, Ei Chai

Richard Chai's new line is being shown off on Nylonmag.com and while I am personally not crazy about all the pieces, I really like the color block dress.

The line will appear in select Target stores in August.

Say Goodbye to Paris

Sean Avery whom I earlier wrote to be attending all the shows at Paris fashion week is nowhere to be seen . Apparently he was needed in the world of hockey and thus was unable to attend as previously planned. Avery's comment?

"I'm sad. I spent three days packing."

Bathing Beauty

The Fall 2008 Paris Couture shows have begun and I begin with showing off a Dior piece that I believe has taken inspiration from the old bathing suits of the 50's.

Inside the "Secret World"

I have just found myself mesmorized by a BBC piece I found on youtube entitled "The Secret World of Haute Couture". Expect to see apperances and interviews with Daphne Guiness, Karl Lagerfeld, John Galliano, and other "club members". The show takes you inside Paris haute couture fashion week and into a few closets of the rather wealthy. But be warned once you begin watching it's hard to stop and you will find yourself glued to the computer for an hour.

R.I.P.

The beautiful "Russian Rapunzel" model Ruslana Korshunova, 20, committed was is apparently suicide yesterday. Investigators believe that she jumped from her ninth story baconey in the financial district of New York.

An article from the New York Post reads,

"I heard what sounded like a gunshot or a bomb or an explosion," said a stunned Con Ed worker talking to a cop nearby. "I looked down the street, and I say to the cop, 'Did that person just get hit by a car?' " said the worker, who identified himself only as Patrick, 32, of Brooklyn. The two men raced over. "Her arms were crushed," Patrick said. "Her head was on the left side and blood was coming out in a pool."

She was a beautiful model and the industry will be missing a piece without her.

In the Dating World

Rumors are circulating that Agyness Deyn and Strokes' lead guitarist, Albert Hammond, Jr. are an item. New York Magazine states that while attending the Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards -

"First the two unabashedly engaged in public displays of affection on the red carpet — an embrace here, a kiss on the cheek there."

We shall see...
