Kirsten avec Miu Miu

Apparently Kirsten Dunst will be the new face for the Miu Miu ad campaign. She will be the face of the Spring 2008 ads. We've already seen what Miuccia can do for Selma Blair, Maggie Gyllenhall (and how she even made Lindsay Lohan look pretty darn cool)

Actually, I like Dunst so hopefully the pictures are unique as we've seen before

Well Hello Kitty

An Amusing story for you:

An old hello kitty gadget is being re-introduced to the global market. A shoulder massager. There seems to be a lot of controversy associated with it though. Says Andrea Sobel, vice-president of the American Sanrio company, “I have no idea what people may have used it for,” she said. “The product was marketed as a shoulder massager. That’s what it was sold as.”

A Little Remodeling

Style.com has gone through some new renovations. It appears that the website is no longer home to both W magazine and Vogue. W Magazine now has its own website and Vogue is still attached to the site.

Unlocking an Hermes Kelly Bag

So we've all heard the rumor of a giant waiting list for any Hermes bag, but what's the truth. I went into the Hermes store in search of answers. How many people are on this list? How does it work? etc. etc. Well it turns out, the buyer ready to set down a few thousand dollars chooses everything from size to leather to color of the bag writes it down on a sheet with their Name Address and Phone Number and when said bag enters their local store they are called and can claim their bag. Well apparently the list is kept hush hush as well as its contents. The very nice salesman I spoke with said that they aren't even allowed to talk about their bags over the phone.

So hush hush, I probably wasn't even supposed to tell you.

"This is my Mother's house"

I just recently sat down to watch the documentary "Grey Gardens" after seeing almost every fashion magazine do their take on the film. It was extraordinary. I now find myself quoting the two Kennedy outcasts on a daily basis. Saying things such as "I'm a STAUNCH character!" and "I'm really an organized person I just can't find it -you see?"

So as I researched more about the film I ran across something VERY interesting. It's being made into a film. And who will be playing little Edie you ask? Why Drew Barrymore.

I don't know if I'm liking this or not.

The London times ran an intresting article on what is in so famous British celebrities bags -- toys, airborne and even tabasco sauce.
"VICTORIA BECKHAM
My favourite is my Hermès Kelly bag, in which I always carry my DVB sunglasses, my BlackBerry, a small make-up bag with a few essentials, baby wipes, some toys for the boys when they’re out and about and a spare nappy for Cruz.

SAVANNAH MILLER
I love Luella’s bags – they are beautifully made and you don’t see them everywhere. Inside is my BlackBerry, which has changed my life; Ruby & Millie Face Gloss, which gives a natural glow and stops you looking like a dog’s dinner; Airborne Formula, a fizzy vitamin thing that is amazing for avoiding bugs on planes; Oyster card; pictures of my family; and a Moleskine sketchbook.

NIGELLA LAWSON
I feel rather antilabel about handbags these days – they’re all a little too Wagtastic. I’m using an anonymous suede bag by Fratelli Rossetti. Inside is a Givenchy powder compact in Happy Sun, a Letts Ladydate diary, a tube of Colman’s English mustard, a mini supply of Maldon salt, a mini bottle of Tabasco, my BlackBerry and a digital camera for taking pictures of everything I eat.

ROKSANDA ILINCIC
My bag is a Chanel 2.55 that was a present from my husband three years ago. I still haven’t found anything that could replace it. Inside are my two favourite lipsticks, Amplified Orange by Mac and a shocking-pink YSL; my LG Shine mobile, which doubles as a mirror; Shu Uemura Depsea Water in Rose and Shu Uemura mascara; YSL vintage sunglasses; Flavigny Pastilles, preferably violet flavour; and my Eiffel Tower gold pen, found when tourist shopping in Paris.

COLEEN McLOUGHLIN
I’m using a classic black leather Chanel bag. I use the same routine when it comes to packing it and follow it religiously: diary, camera (you never know when you will need one), St Tropez Bronzer, Nars blusher, Pout lip plump, YSL mascara, my own Coleen X perfume, green Wrigley’s Extra, credit cards and money in case I need to take a taxi. "

Some Like it Hot

So, who doesn't love Marilyn Monroe in the Seven Year Itch and Some Like it Hot?, but new photos have recently been released showing how she looked before the glamour years, and I've got to say the transformation is spectacular. She grew up Norma Jeane but changed her name (kind of like Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's no?)

Times They are A'Changin

Two words you never thought you would hear in the same sentence :: Robert Cavalli and H&M.
That's right Cavalli is designing the next inexpensive line for the store. Expect long lines at all stores when it launches on November 8 (don't tell me you forgot about the Stella McCartney raid already?) He's calling this collection his "flash collection" and it will feature his signature leopard print.

Oh Sweet Nostalgia

In the October issue of Vogue magazine writer Joyce Maynard was featured. The article intrigued me because it was about an author who wrote a novel looking back - the catch is she was looking back on her life at only eighteen. The article can be found here. The novel Looking Back is really intriguing about her life growing up in the sixties covering events such as beatlemania and those wonderful sitcom television shows (andy griffith and i love lucy ring a bell?) I had to buy it offline because the novel is a nightmare finding in stores (it could be out of print) anyways invest - you'll love it

An Apple A Day..

Louis Vuitton sent the first dozen or so models out in nurse type costumes putting more emphasis on the bags, but I've got to admit I do not like those transparent dresses they have one. yuck. Others war huge gauzy type bows in their hair.

Wear you Say?

whowhatweardaily.com is one of the neatest websites I've seen (though it could use a bit more organization) check it out. it shows exactly what celebrities are wearing and you can even ask them for specific information on a look.

Via E-card

The New York Times did an article on e-cards and this amazingly witty site. Someecards.com The site is composed of some of the funniest cards I've ever seen and I immediately sent a few to some friends. So e-cards are no longer geeky attempts to cover the fact that you forgot someone's birthday.

I Love NY

I just received the New Yorker style issue in the mail and am pouring over the witty stories and interviews. One of my favorite aspects of the magazine, the cover, was so perfect for the issue. I tried to fine the cover image online but failed. It has all these little old ladies living in shoes as the nursery rhyme says but a big pink pump is in the background and obviously not to the likings of the old ladies.

Alice in Wonderland

The newest Go:International Designer at Target is Alice Temperley and I've already made a few purchases (and plan to make more..) The items are adorable. Black and White with hints of blues and pinks.

Venturing 'Into the Wild'

I just saw an interview pertaining to the new movie "Into the Wild" starting Emile Hirsch. It's based on a book and I can't wait to pick it up. The novel follows the true story of a young man who backpacked around America in an attempt to find himself. After traveling the daunting wilderness of Alaska, the boy was found emaciated and dead in an abandoned bus which he had converted into his own home. The movie opens nationwide in October and was directed by Sean Penn.

Leave Her a-Lohan

So just finished reading the September Elle article about Lindsay Lohan in which she explains herself as a girl just trying to live her life. She boasts about her career and "talents" (“I just want to be nominated for an award for all the work I’ve done. It’s so funny – people forget that I played two characters in Parent Trap when I was twelve years old.”)and throws down stupid jokes like "how do you make a blond laugh on Saturday? tell her a joke on Wednesday." Believe me when I say it's not worth your time. And as that t-shirt says "Leave her a-Lohan" (so that we don't have to suffer through seeing her anymore!!!!!

Here Comes the Bride..

Who just got married? Why, it's A.C. Newman lead singer of the New Pornographers. Neko Case (another singer for the band) sang at the wedding for Newman and his wife Christy Simpson (marketing manager of their label Matador Records) Also, it was reported that band Mates of State sang their version of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" at the after-party.

The New Pornographers new CD is out entitled "Challengers"

She's Bacckk.

Zandra Rhodes, known for her hot pink hair and zany colorful array of eyeshadow, is back in New York. She recently designed a line for Topshop and a make-up line for M.A.C., but Rhodes is back for the thing we call, fashion. Be prepared to see those colorful fabrics we've been missing.

You Ain't Nothin' but a Hounddog

Today is the 30th anniversary of the death of Elvis, and fans are going Elvis paraphernalia crazy. This article is about an Elvis Presley vigil in Graceland, Elvis' hometown. Others are paying their tributes in Canada, some are remenicing on the way he changed their lives, and the Brits are paying their respects as well.

New Read

Today as I browsed through one of my favorite stores ever (ahem, Anthropologie) I ran across a book that I just had to have. The photos and illustrations are amazing and it's definitly worthy of your bedside table. I found it on Amazon.com (one of my favorite websites) for you.

What's in Style?

Well Divorce of course! According the the New York Times since the real-estate market is at a high, couples can sell their homes for a hefty price and then afford to have the divorce they dreamed of. My favorite quote: “The real estate market allowed her to buy her freedom.”

My Response "Nu Uh!"

We all love Vera Wang right? Her wedding dress on Jessica Simpson (even if we don't like Jessica Simpson), her Princess perfume, but it's so expensive. Luxury has its cost right? I've been having fun with the Go:International lines with Target but now -- now I'll be heading to Kohl's for Simply Vera. Yes, Vera is doing a casual (and cheap!) line for Kohl's coming out September 9! You can get a preview on this website. The ads are based on The Wizard of Oz.

Oh so weak..

Our weak dollar = higher designer prices (is it possible?) Enjoy the bit in which shoppers are said to have "caviar taste" and the nice photo of a ladies arm with wads of cash.

The Rush Hour

Barney's is having a warehouse sale... be warned. Mad rushes of people might be coming you're way - will you be one of them?

Too One-Sided?

I love this Jil Sander dress that Kate Bosworth recently wore to the premiere of the movie The Eleventh Hour.

And we all say "Dali!"

While visiting the Tate Modern in London, there was an exhibition going on featuring Salvadore Dali's works. Sadly, I was at a loss of time and thus was not able to see the exhibit, but it did leave me to want to research the man, and I surprisingly found that he has a connection with the fashion world. He actually worked with Coco Chanel doing fashion and jewelery designs. He also designed costumes for the Ballets Russes de Montecarlo's first performance at the Metropolitan Opera House of Labyrinth.

Twenty8Twelve

The British world has always had Sienna Miller on the radar for fashion excellence and Americans are slowly noticing her too, and now all of us can wear the clothing she loves through her new line Twenty8Twelve produced with sister, Savannah Miller. Sienna seems to be the fashion guru while Savannah is the actual designer. Savannah has freelanced with many designers, one including Alexander McQueen. Here are some photos from the release party(I love the white dress of Savannah) and of the actual line (featured in British Vogue):

Welcome Back Miu Miu

Miu Miu reopened it's store on Prince Street in Soho and what better way to do it with a little pizazz and a lot of par-tay? The store used to be decorated in a very sophisticated, formal very it's mother-store Prada-esque, but now it's got the edgy gold shag carpeting, brocade blue coffee tables look -- more like it's hip fashion style. Apparently the store's decor was inspired by Paris restaurant Lapérouse.

The "New Look"

Elle magazine is shooting for a new look with its September cover. Guess who will appearing on the cover? That's right -- Lindsay Lohan. The New York Times stated, "Elle is already generating controversy (or buzz, depending on your view) for putting the troubled actress Lindsay Lohan on the cover." Elle has never really been considered a true fashion magazine, so we will see how this helps its standings (but I've got to admit I'm loving their website.) You can read the article here

In her Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat

I just finished watching Factory Girl starring Sienna Miller as Edie Sedgwick and Guy Pierce as Andy Warhol and loved it. The director does a great job of juxtaposing the old-style film with modern day film techniques. The funny part of it is that Sedgwick's love interest goes by the name "Billy Quinn" and they also refer to him as a "famous folk singer" rather than actually calling him Bob Dylan. Maybe Dylan didn't want his name used? It is true that Dylan refuses to sing any of his songs from the 60's (which is disappointing since those are some of his best songs).

Well, Well, Well...

Apparently Nicole Richie is pregnant. She's four months. Now I wonder what she will look like in 5 months!!

Blast From the Past?

This "Phonofone II" by Science and Sons is a whopping $840 but it combines the past with present (which makes me want to listen to the song 'past in present' by feist and i could on this new phonofone! [said in price is right voice]). All one does is hook it up to the output of your cd player or any other musical device and you've got music playing like the good ole' days.

Color By Number

This video of John Galliano's Dior backstage fashion show at Versailles really proves the beauty of make-up. I especially enjoyed the dialouge between Irina Lazareanu and Mariacarla Boscono in the middle. Pat McGrath is a genius, I tell you!

Watch the video here.

It Keeps Going and Going and Going

Sun Shining in L.A.

Victoria Beckham is now hitting the L.A. circuit, and many are happy to follow. Her welcome to L.A. party had attendees such as Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise, Will Smith, and more. What I can't fathom is how she gets off a plane from London looking like this:

Oye Vey Eet Ez Zee Simpsons!

The Simpsons in Paris? The Simpsons in fashion?

Well it's true. At trendy Parisian it-store Colette, the window display fashions are modeled by none other than Marge, Lisa and all the other Simpson characters in honor of the new movie. Plus, everything in the store is devoted to the Simpsons from Pez containers to any other memorabilia you can think of. 20 French artists were invited to sculpt their own idea of Bart Simpson. Believe it or not this was the store's idea not Fox. Artistic Director Sarah Colette stated, "Fox couldn't really understand why we would want the Simpsons in a fashion shop"

And the moral of the story is..

So I've been reading the age issue of Vogue and I've come to a very interesting conclusion. The people at Vogue are sending out his message "You look good no matter what age you are -- but consider some botox while you're at it"

Raves for Raving

I'd heard that Julia Stiles made a short film for Elle but continually forgot to check it out. Well today I saw Zooey Deschanel on tv and quickly ran to the computer to watch the stiles film that she stars in. Well Stiles definitely tries to be a little too artsy, but overall the film was wonderful. Watch raving. It's about 23 minutes and definitely worth it.

I love Winona Ryder and will always forgive her for her "little incident" at Neiman Marcus (it was Neiman right?) She's looking beautiful for Vogue now (and I can't help but oogle the green pumps she's wearing..)

Spy Bag esque?

Fendi's new bag -- i personally hate the color scheme but the idea is pretty fun. It switches from a clutch to a handbag in one fail swoop.

JUMP!

how much do you love this?

And the Whirlwind Continues

Mary-kate and Ashley after coming out with high-end line The Row are now to come out with a more affordable sportswear line Elizabeth and James. Pictures as soon as I can find them!

Extra! Extra!

Following in the footsteps of Grace Kelly and Jane Birkin, Naomi Campbell is said to be coming out with a new bag for Hermes. What does the purse version of Ms. Campbell look like I wonder?
